I went to site visit with my Unit's staff at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). It`s about to learn on how Building Automation System (BAS) works.
AHU ROOM AT KLCC
Basically, building automation system describes the functionality provided by the control system of a building. A building automation system (BAS) is an example of a distributed control system. The control system is a computerized, intelligent network of electronic devices, designed to monitor and control the mechanical and lighting systems in a building.
BAS core functionality keeps the building climate within a specified range, provides lighting based on an occupancy schedule, and monitors system performance and device failures and provides email and/or text notifications to building engineering staff. The BAS functionality reduces building energy and maintenance costs when compared to a non-controlled building. A building controlled by a BAS is often referred to as an intelligent building system.
EXAMPLE BUILDING AUTOMATION SYSTEM (BAS)
HOW BUILDING AUTOMATION SYSTEM COMPONENTS FIT TOGETHER
A building automation system (BAS) consists of sensors, controllers, actuators, and software. An operator interfaces with the system via a central workstation.
Later on the evening, after office hour, I joined my Unit`s staff played futsal at Kuchai Lama.

4)Traps
Traps should be designed so that deposits do not accumulate. A trap which is an integral part of an appliance should be attached to and be immediately beneath its outlet and be self cleansing. The internal surface of the trap should be smooth throughout. All traps should accessible and provided with adequate facility for cleansing.

I am attending a Talk organised by Sime Darby Industrial Academy Sdn. Bhd. at JKR. Basically, the talk is about training programmes provided and products offered by Sime Darby.
Sime Darby Industrial Academy was established in July 2002 to cater for the nation's needs and requirements for skilled manpower, and also for the training and development needs of Malaysian industries.
Sime Darby Industrial Academy is a subsidiary of Sime Darby Industrial Sdn. Bhd. (formerly known as Tractors Malaysia (1982) Sdn. Bhd.) which is a member of Sime Darby Group.
Sime Darby Industrial Academy has been training thousands of Malaysian youths and school leavers for employment in various industries in Malaysia and overseas, covering the fields of constructions, infrastructures, quarries, logging, mining, power generation and marine. Some of the graduates are highly sought after by major foreign companies. Tractors Malaysia is fully committed to people development for both its in-house business units as well as its external customers.
Sime Darby Industrial Academy is an approved National Vocational Training Centre, recognised by the Skills Development Department, Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia.
All Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) programmes conducted by Sime Darby Industrial Academy comply with the learning and practical modules as required by the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) and the certification system of the JPK stipulated by the Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia.

7)Sizing of Cold Water Supply Pipe
•In designing cold water supply installations, an assessment must be made of the probable maximum water flow. In most buildings it seldom happens that the total number of appliances installed are ever in use at the same time and appliances, the type of building in which they are installed, and the frequency of usage.
•The Plumbing Institute has devised a method of assessing the probable maximum demand based upon the theory of probability. With this method loading unit rating has been devised for each type of sanitary appliance based on its rate of water delivery, the time the taps are open during usage and simultaneous demand for particular type of appliance.
•It is best to determine the pipe size after the schematic drawings have been completed. Two fundamental factors governing pipe sizing are velocity and frictional factor. Velocity limited to max of 2.5 m/s and min 0.8 m/s. Friction kept below 10 m/ 100 m.

6)Various cold water system for building
•Upfeed System
-Where the pressure in the water main is sufficient to distribute water throughout the entire building, an upfeed system as shown in Figure 1 is used.
•Downfeed System (Gravity Feed System, Elevated Water Tank System)
-In an elevated water tank system, such as the simplified system shown in Figure 2, water is pumped from the water main to an elevated water storage tank located above the highest and most hydraulically remote point in the water supply system of the building.
•Pneumatic Direct Water System
-Pneumatic Direct Water System are basically designed for provision of drinking water for high rise buildings. The pressure in the main may not be sufficient to supply all the drinking water appliances and a pneumatic water system is used to overcome this problem.

4)Tank sizing method and types of tank available in the market
•The total storage capacity of the suction and the storage cisterns (elevated tank) should not be less than the required for one day’s use. Generally the suction tanks contain 1/3 of the total water demand and the elevated tanks contain 2/3 of the total water demand.
•Calculate the suction tank and storage tank capacity using pressed steel tank

3) Computations of water demand for various types of building
•Based on local water work authority requirements that are normally applied to housing estates, flats, hotel.
•Based on rule 224 (Uniform water supply rules).
•Based on actual recording of daily water consumption. This method is applied to hospitals expressed in terms of gallons per bed.
Rule 224 as shown in Table 1 below.
If the capacity of a storage required cannot be obtained from Table 1, use Table 2 below.
